FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Category: General

I have been drawing and painting since I was a child. I always had a sketchbook around and was always doodling on my notes in class. I started art classes in middle school and made sure to be taking some sort of art class every grade since then. I studied Studio Art at Virginia Tech and received my degree in 2008.

My biggest inspiration growing up was my father. He was always such an amazing artist and I wanted to be just like him. These days I draw a lot of my artistic influence from small, independent and local artists who are still experimenting with style and subjects. I much prefer walking into a tiny downtown art gallery than a huge art museum. That being said, I absolutely LOVE Baroque art and anything with a dramatic use of chiaroscuro!

I prefer to use photographs as reference for my art – but also prefer to take those photographs myself. I love to go on photography adventures in search of new subjects – whether it’s a trip to the zoo, a drive out in the country, or a hike in the mountains.

Obviously every piece is different, but one of my typical pieces can take anywhere from 6-12 hours depending on how detailed the pen work is. These hours usually occur over the course of a few weeks since I am usually working on several pieces at a time.

I love to experiment with new materials and mediums, and I try not to limit myself. But lately my favorite mediums have been ink, watercolor, and colored pencil. I also love painting with oils and acrylics. My favorite materials right now include my Shinhan Professional watercolor paints, Dr Ph. Martins Inks, Pigma Micron Pens, Faber-Castell pens, Strathmore Mixed Media paper, Prismacolor Pencils, and Canson Mi-Teintes paper.

Yes, always! I make sure every piece of my artwork is acid-free and archival to protect it and ensure its quality through the years. This includes all of my mediums, paper, canvas, and packing materials. I also only use professional grade mediums.

Yes, absolutely! Please feel free to reach out to me at cherietaylorstudio@gmail.com.

I will accept visitors on a case-by-case basis for a private tour if you are interested in setting one up. I am currently working out of the loft area in my home, so there are no open public tours.

Absolutely! Although framing and matting is extra, I would be more than happy to work with you to find the perfect selection for your home (at cost). If you are interested, just let me know what your framing preferences are and I would be happy to put together options and a quote for framing.

You are more than welcome to feature my work on your site or social media, as long as you credit me alongside the work and link back to one of my social media sites. For all other cases, please contact me first and I will approve on a case-by-case basis.

Thank you for your interest in my work! You can find me on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Reddit, Pinterest, and DeviantArt.

There are many ways you can support me as an artist! If you would like to support me financially, please feel free to check out my original artwork shop or my RedBubble prints shop to purchase artwork. Or you can commission me to create a custom piece of artwork for your home. You can also “Buy Me A Coffee”. I am currently setting up a Patreon account and will link to that shortly. If you are unable to support me financially, there are many ways you can help support me by liking my posts, leaving nice comments, and sharing my art from my various social media accounts: Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube! Thank you so much for your support!

Category: Commissioned Artwork

Yes! I am currently accepting commissioned projects. I am limited in the number of commissions I can take on at any given time. Please contact me to discuss your project and check my availability.

Once I receive your request for a commission, I will reach out to you to make sure I have all of the details of your request including reference pictures. Once we have nailed down exactly what you are looking for I will send you a quote for the cost of the artwork. Once the quote is approved I will send you a short commission contract to sign to make sure we are both on the same page about the project. Once the contract is signed, I require a 50% non-refundable deposit to begin the work. This is to help cover my time and the materials. Once the deposit is received I will begin work. I will send you a preliminary sketch to make sure you approve the layout. Once the sketch is approved I will move forward with the piece. Once the piece is completed I will send you a picture of the completed piece for your approval. If you approve the remaining 50% of the payment will be due. After I receive the final payment, we can coordinate how you would like to receive the piece.

The price includes the artwork itself, in a protective sleeve with a backing board. For works on canvas, it includes just the canvas. If you are interested in matting or framing for an additional cost, I would be happy to arrange that for you! Shipping is not included.

Since each piece of art is different, I cannot give you a time estimate until I know all of the details of your project. But I typically set deadlines out one month from a signed contract. This can also change depending on my schedule and how many commissions I am working on at any given time. If you have a specific deadline you need the piece of artwork by, please let me know and I will see if I can fit your deadline in to my schedule. I make every effort to complete your artwork in a timely manner and am happy to work with you if you have a deadline.

Once a contract is signed I require a 50% non-refundable deposit to begin the work. Once the artwork is complete the final 50% will be due before the artwork is shipped. Matting, framing, and shipping are additional. I accept cash, check, and PayPal. If you would like to pay by credit card, I would be happy to set up a payment through my website.

Yes, I would be happy to discuss an installment plan with you. Please reach out to me if you are interested in an installment plan. Artwork will be delivered after all payments are complete.

Absolutely! Although I cannot take the time to send you an update at every step, I would be happy to provide a few progress pics if you are interested. I will always send a picture of the preliminary sketch to make sure we are on the same page about the layout. If you would like me to send updates between the initial sketch approval and the final piece, please let me know.

For every piece of artwork I create, I take plenty of progress pictures and a time lapse video of the art being created – and I LOVE to share these on my social media pages. In my contract I reserve the right to use the artwork for promotional purposes, but I am perfectly happy to work with my clients if they would prefer that I not share their piece. Typically clients request that I not share the work until after they receive it – especially if the item is a gift. If you submit a commission request, I will ask you for your preference about sharing on social media.

The purchase price of my commissioned artwork is for the physical piece of artwork itself. This does not include the rights to make prints or products with the artwork on them. If you are interested in making prints or products, please contact me. I would be happy to negotiate a reproduction clause in the contract from the beginning if you know you plan on reproducing the work. I would also be happy to work with you to create prints and products of the artwork in the future if you are interested. This helps me maintain the artistic integrity of my art reproductions.

For custom, commissioned artwork I do not accept returns.

Once I complete your artwork I will send you a picture of the artwork for your approval. If you approve the artwork then the remainder of your balance is due and the artwork will be shipped to you. After this, the sale is final. If you do not approve of the artwork based on the picture I send you then I will be happy to rework the artwork, where possible, to make sure you absolutely LOVE it. At any time, you will maintain the Right of Refusal – to refuse the sale of the artwork and break the contract. The non-refundable deposit will be forfeit, but you will not be responsible for the remainder of the balance. If you refuse to purchase the artwork, no in-progress artwork or materials will be given to you.

I do not offer free commissioned work or free work for “exposure”. Creating artwork is a skilled labor and artists deserve to be paid for their work and the countless hours they spend creating their artwork. I am a full-time artist and need to bring home a salary to continue working as an artist.

If you need a piece of artwork expedited or before a particular day, please reach out to me and I will do everything possible to make it happen!

Please reach out to me immediately if your artwork is damaged in shipping. I would be more than happy to fix the artwork, where possible, or try to replace the damaged work. I would also be happy to refund you the price of the damaged work if you provide documentation of the damage.

I make every effort to represent the artwork digitally as close to the original as possible, but please allow for slight color variance due to the differences in computer monitors.

Unfortunately at this time I am not offering shipping outside the United States as an option on my website. If you are outside the US and would like to purchase a piece of my artwork, please contact me and I’d be happy to work something out.

This is considered a commission drawing, so please see my commissions page on my website for information and pricing.

RedBubble is an online marketplace for print-on-demand prints and products. I have carefully selected a number of printing options and products that I feel work well with my artwork and have made them available to the public for purchase. If there is a particular product or specialty size that you are looking for, please feel free to contact me with your request. I would be happy to work with you to make that product available for purchase.

Each print is digitally signed with my professional watermark signature. Currently I am not offering hand signed prints, but I hope to start offering this option soon.
